This is amazing...I had to share. Most times, when I'm photographing families or weddings, I have a very serious look on my face, and I am deep in thought. I know that I'm definitely not Stephen, but our brains are amazing! My mind is thinking, is this enough light, will this area showcase the family, how will it look retouched, can I take that tree out or do we need to move, does this capture the spirit of their family or child. Elisa Gollatz was frustrated with all the provocative clothing being marketed to our girls. She started designing clothing for children that promotes the virtue of modesty. We are teaming up in February. I love the line and would recommend it to my clients for photoshoots. These cute outfits really can make your portraits unique and precious! Every year I call Santa just in time to make an appointment to visit with him. I always enjoy seeing him interact with all the kids. I am making his time available to all my clients for $150. So, I have so share a funny thing that happened to me the other day. While I was at church chatting with a friend, she tells me that I have to see her all time favorite picture of her little boy. She wanted to show it to me just for ideas and such. She tells me about the picture and says that the picture was taken at County Line UMC Preschool. I laugh and ask her when the picture was taken. She tells me it was taken in 2004...So funny...I was the photographer! I didn't even know her then! It was such a blessing to know that my photography is loved and cherished!

I wanted to encourage you all to include your baby's favorite lovie in your sessions. As your child grows, lovie will always be right by their side. When your child loves a stuffed animal or blanket that much, they are bound to become dirty and ripped. I am trying to eat much healthier. I used to be a vegetarian during my teens but as life got busy I reverted back to my old meat eating habits. I stumbled upon a very cool website www.greensmoothiegirl.com so I pulled my vitamix out. There is so much life in vegetables and fruits that my body is calling for a change...so I'm jumping back in...Here's a picture of my breakfast this morning. Don't be fooled! It is so yummy!

With your Vitamixer:
Combine and mix until smooth:
2 Tablespoons of Cocoa
1 Avocado
1 cup Fresh Spinach
2 Small Apples
1 cup water
2 Table Spoons of Agave Sweetener
1 Teaspoon of Stevia (Optional)

Family Vacation 2009 recap. Well we made it through and had a blast on our family vacation. I will say that it was a little difficult with a VERY TWO year old. Can I suggest a fantastic place to stay at Myrtle Beach? Ocean Lakes Family Campground...it has the perfect accommodations for everyone. If you like camping with a tent, they got it...How about a camper, they got it! What if you want to stay in a fancy custom built house? They got it! They have an indoor heated pool, outdoor pool with splash area, put-put, playground, nature center, laundry, shopping, golf cart rental....the indoor pool is great if it rains most of your vacation or if the weather turns cold (did you catch the sarcasm). We all had a blast and loved Ocean Lakes. We will be going back again!

So we are thinking about getting a new dog. Our very special Daisy passed away almost a year ago. She was our baby before our babies...You know what I mean. Now we are thinking about getting a new dog and all I want to do is find other rat terriers. Is this the best dog for our family? Although Daisy was our baby she probably wasn't the best for the kids. She was super high energy, very smart, and would snuggle but she did not like the kids to take her toys or food and snapped at the kids. Her time was just right but I sure do miss her. Sometimes I still see her in my peripheral vision and then notice it was a shoe (or something else). Time heals all but if you have recently lost a dog, DO NOT SEE Marley and Me...it is too much! I'd love to hear from you regarding the best dog for families. I would like a dog that would not dare to snap at a kid and doesn't shed. Please share!

Well, I did it...It is one very hard task for me. Every year, I try very hard to get a picture that I would like of my own children. This year the twins did great and the baby tried really hard. Candid shots are some of my favorites but I really wanted one of them all together with sweet smiles, I know, I know! Since 2 out of 3 are smiling, it will be a favorite for this year. I've posted two shots one is unretouched, and the other to show an example of a plastered smile (LOL). I surely didn't want that. LOL! I hope you get a laugh out of it!

Rarely do I get pictures of myself, especially since I've been pregnant. My mom took some shots of us at the beach. These will be going up in the babies room. I just love this one! This week (Dec. 10-15) I am at Hilton Head Island spending some time with my parents and the twins before the baby comes. It is so sweet to see them playing in the sand. We've been blessed with beautiful weather so the kids have been able to run in the water...Not swim but get really cold feet. They don't mind. Children's excitement about life is so powerful. Watching them play brought a tear to my eye this afternoon. I hope your holiday season has been a blessing also!

Location sessions are fun because I get to shoot in different situations and unique props. This session was 4 month old triplets. Hands down...This was the cutest thing!!! One sleeping baby is precious, two sleeping babies is amazing, but three sleeping babies is a miracle! Plus, they were all put into a Moses basket. Why am I posting images of little bears? I had to share...My two little ones slipped away and were playing very quietly the other day. I heard them laughing and giggling. So, I checked in on them. I found them in my studio playing photographer. I told them that they didn't have to pretend to play. So, I let them take pictures of their little bears and dolls using my camera. This shot is one of my favorites. They had so much fun and I thought it was just precious. I love these little moments in life! I look forward to working with all of your precious little ones too.

I really love the setting of Acworth Beach. I had a family session there today and here are two of my favorites. These two little ones were fun. I am amazed that even at age two they have figured out so much. They took a liking to the picnic table and the beautiful kite in the sky, but the real beauty was in the miracle of their lives which began at only 29 weeks.

Black and White VS. Color

I often have a hard time picking which image would look better in black and white or color. I had to post a recent shoot that I've been working on. This image is of a precious 1 year old. I really like the bright colors in the image but I also like the contrast and simplicity of the black and white. The battle rages!

I enjoy the celebration of Easter every year. This year we enjoyed a Easter egg hunt with the cousins. I was able to capture a moment between them. These special moments are why I enjoy photographing little ones. They show their emotions so freely without hesitation...

After much thought, I would have to say that my photographic speciality is fine art, black & white portraits of family events including maternity, birth, family life, weddings, and other events. Location photography always makes for an interesting background. Many clients complain that they don't have any places that work for their portraits. Don't worry about that, leave that to me! I am always able to find a perfect spot for that precious portrait. I will even suggest clothing if you have any questions.

About the fine art portrait: I loved this shot because the sun shining through the window makes for and interesting portrait...And the bunny too!

Bunnies, Bunnies, everywhere! I was itching to get some shots with bunnies this year. So, in preparation for next year's portrait sessions, I have two loaner bunnies that I used to get some modeling photos. They have been so sweet and the kids love them. Watch next year because I will be offering them. Just too much this year with the move.

I just love the spring time. New life is in the air! However, we've had a cold front move in for a week or two. Now it seems things are getting warmer. I had to share a cute one from session last week. I just happened to find her 'favorite' doggy while I was there. Although she can't talk in full sentences, she did tell me thank you. It was precious!

Well, I took the trip to Winston again this weekend in search of the perfect house. One that would offer plenty of room for photography and family. I think I may have found it...We'll see how it pans out!

I've also been working on my new site for Winston Salem. Please check it out at http://www.burtdesignsphotography.com. It is still a work in progress but I should have the galleries functioning soon. While building the site, I've come across some favorite shots from past sessions. The above is a precious little girl at 6 months...She cried most of the session but I managed to get the shot in between tears.

I want my clients to continue coming back to my site over and over again. So, the only way I know how to make that happen is to make visiting my site fun. So, I'm beginning a blog which I'll update often with new photos, ideas, specials, and I'm sure some will just be ramblings...
